Three years after the start ofPlaystation 4, Sony has overhauled your old console to give it a new lease of life. As with previous PlayStations, the updated console has a sleeker new look, some new features, and even some minor internal updates.
Unlike previous generations, however, the launch of the new console came at a turbulent time for themarca playstation. There's currently not one, but three new PlayStation devices: the revamped PlayStation 4, called the 4K-capable version of PS4.Playstation 4 Pro, It's aPlaystation VRHeadphones that work with any PlayStation 4 device.ps5which will announce the next generation of consoles later this year.
Next to such ambitious brothers, the "Slim" may not look very impressive. It's designed more to appeal to gamers who haven't bought a modern console yet than to appeal to current PS4 owners. After all, no one wants to buy the smallest launch console.
If you have strong feelings about PlayStation 4, good or bad, this console won't change your mind. Aside from a slimmer physique, it only has one or two notable changes from the original model. The most important elements: its processing power, the feel of the controller in the hand, the library of games availablePlayStation-Store- They have not changed. While the new PlayStation 4 is "better" than the original, the difference isn't necessarily worth the extra investment, especially when there's a more powerful version on the market as well.
PlayStation is getting a "fun" makeover
Mostnoticeable changesMade specifically for the new PlayStation 4, you'll see while you play, not feel.
At a functional level is the new consolesignificantly smallerthan the original PlayStation 4, just over two-thirds the total size of the original PS4. It's a bit lighter, too: The Slim weighs in at 4.6 pounds, compared to 6.2 pounds for the original.
More importantly, the Slim has received a cosmetic makeover. The signature shape of the PS4, a sharp, angled parallelogram, has been toned down slightly with rounded corners. The drive and the two USB ports are now somewhat hidden in a flat recess in the front. At the top, the console is marked with the PlayStation logo. Below that, the console rests on "feet" in the form of triangles, circles, and exes that can be found on the console's buttons.
The power and eject buttons, originally a pair of slim black buttons on the front, are now much smaller and sit on the "edge" of the console in front of the disc drive. A large indicator light that runs along the top of the console has been removed. The light that indicates when the console is turned on or off is now a small row of dots on the console's power button.
If you already own a PlayStation 4, there's little reason to upgrade to a PlayStation 4 Slim.
oMando DualShock 4also slightly revised. The touchpad is now translucent, allowing a light bar of the console's colored indicator light to show through. While you won't notice the change very often unless you routinely hold the controller up to your face, it does offer easier and quicker access to light. And the buttons on the back, the analog sticks, and the directional buttons are now gray instead of black.
While each change feels lightweight individually, as a whole the PS4 feels less staid than the original model. You feel that this product, while a sizeable piece of technology, is built for fun, not business. The long clear stripe across the top of the console gave the console a premium feel and a bit of flair, overall the new console looks good and maintains a lower profile. The people who come to you will appreciate your attention to detail; others won't notice it, as it disappears into a shelf of routers, streaming devices, and other set-top boxes.
compatible con wifi
The biggest improvement over the PlayStation 4 - the only reason you might even consider buying one over the original - is the updated Wi-Fi compatibility. The Slim now supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which should result in faster download speeds and more stability when gaming online for those whose routers support it. In my New York apartment, I was finally able to play online over Wi-Fi instead of connecting via a tether.Cabo-Ethernet.
There's another system change that most people won't notice: With the Slim redesign, the PlayStation 4 loses its optical output port. If this message doesn't make you scream right away, then you don't care. The optical output is used for high-end home theater systems and makes no difference to most players.
warranty information
The PlayStation 4 comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty that begins on the date of purchase of the console.
our opinion
Thanks to some minor tweaks and internal updates, PlayStation 4 maintains its place as one of the best, if notÖ,Top-of-the-line dedicated gaming platforms. If you want to play some video games and don't want to worry about the little things, you've come to the right place.
Is there a better alternative?
Not now and probably not until the next generation comes out.
The Nintendo Switch is an excellent console, but it's hard to call it an alternative. The Switch can be used as a portable or docked console. In addition, the visual quality suffers. Nintendo's console also has a very different library of games, so your choice will depend on what you want to play.
However, Microsoft's Xbox One X is noticeably more powerful than the PlayStation 4. Some gamers may still prefer it (if you're serious).transmissionfan, for example), but most will be better off sticking with the Sony console.
Still, the PlayStation 5 is almost here and it's best to wait since you'll be playing many of the same games on your system at launch.
How long will it take?
The PlayStation 4 is reaching the end of its life, huho Playstation 5it will be released in late 2020, as long as production is not affected. However, if you don't mind being a generation behind, the hardware itself should last for years, maybe decades, with a massive library full of great games.
you should buy it
Yes, if you don't already have a PS4. PlayStation 4 Slim is the most affordable version of this generation's most popular console, making it a great way to experience all of this generation's amazing games on a budget. However, if you can wait and you have the money, you can wait.ps5this holiday season.
