Despite his hospitality, the peddler stole his money and betrayed his trust. Edla also treated him well, even after finding out his true identity. The traveling salesman who has always seen the world as a mousetrap that locks people in has finally felt free of that trap, thanks to the kind, generous and compassionate treatment of Crofter and Edlas.
